Peyton Gilliland’s lethal game of Love in new Song

Peyton Gilliland is back! Yeah, you may remember we previously hailed her as “The future of rock”, and with her newest thrill “Love Kills”, she continues to prove that we were truly onto something with her because she’s just that special.

This new track by Peyton starts off like an alt-rock ballad leaning on airy and sinuous chords pinned down by snappy percussion elements, slowly ramping up to the hook once and then again until a spacey-prog solo bursts forward.

“‘Love kills’ is about that feeling when you meet someone new and you know it’s either going to be amazing or it’s going to kill you. It’s about being burned by partners over and over until you adopt that ‘you better play your cards right or you’ll never see me again’ attitude.”

– Peyton Gilliland

"Love Kills" describes love as a powerful force that can be both alluring and dangerous. The song portrays love as a poison that can be addictive, with the tip of the tongue representing the initial taste of love that leads to obsession. The lyrics also suggest that love can lead to casualties, but Peyton is willing to take that risk and accept the blame. The repeated phrase "Love kills" emphasizes the idea that love can be deadly, while the line "Every villain was once a victim" illustrates a vicious cycle of being hurt and hurting others. Overall, the lyrics paint a picture of love as a complex and sometimes destructive emotion that can be dangerous to wield and tough to accept.

Largely due to the emotional intensity and strength behind the vocals, this song feels faster and more frantic than it actually is, and this alone would be enough to set it apart from the norm, but in between Peyton’s voice and the supreme quality of the musicianship (especially those drums!) really goes that extra mile to make this release feel truly special.

“Love Kills” is Peyton’s latest addition to her growing repertoire, fitting neatly into the overall shape of her upcoming EP  “Lipstick & Lithium”, which follows her “sassy Villain character that is [her] Alter Ego”. So there you have it, more PG to come this fall, stay tuned for a greater glimpse into the Future of Female-led Rock music.
