“New Waves” by Montazona Is a Reflection on the Overwhelming Pace of Modern Life

Montazona's latest single, “New Waves”, is a testament to Marius Britt's musical evolution and his ability to connect emotions through music. From the very first note, “New Waves” pulls you into a sonic vortex filled with hypnotic guitar riffs and shimmering synths that embody both the allure and chaos.

Lyrically, the song talks about the overwhelming nature of constantly needing to adapt to new trends and experiences, capturing the feeling of being lost in a world that demands constant speed and change. It sums up the anguish of not being able to take the time to do things since everything seems to move at an unnecessarily accelerated pace.

Marius’s vocals are emotive yet grounded, perfectly capturing that delicate tension between wanting to stay authentic and feeling swept away by the constant push for novelty.

The opening lines, "What are you waiting for? / Pick up your feet and go / Walk right out that door / On to the next," set the stage for the restless pursuit of something new, a feeling many of us can relate to in today’s fast-paced culture. Montazona urges us to keep moving forward, leaving everything in our wake but subtly questions whether this relentless chase for novelty truly leads to satisfaction.

The repetition of "Do you see what I'm seeing? / Do you feel what I'm feeling?" suggests a shared anxiety—an unspoken understanding of how disorienting it is to try and keep up with an accelerated world.

As the chorus builds, “New waves / Rolling in to wash away / Do we have to change everything / Just to see it go,” there’s a bittersweet reflection on how easily things are discarded, replaced, and forgotten. The metaphor of waves rolling in, washing away the old, echoes the transient nature of trends and the constant pressure to reinvent oneself.

There’s a sense of urgency in the rhythm, but the layered production gives it a laid-back vibe that reflects the struggle of keeping up while yearning to slow down.  “New Waves” it’s also a duality. It's vibrant and "trendy" enough to catch the attention of the modern music landscape, yet it carries an undercurrent of introspection that makes you pause and reflect. The distorted guitars paired with dreamy synthesizers are pure Montazona, but there's an added depth here that feels like Marius's way of processing his personal and artistic journey. In fact, the artist has said that “New Waves” is his reaction to moving to Los Angeles and being shocked at the speed with which things move there.

“I like to take my time and be thoughtful in almost every aspect of my life, so it was a big adjustment for me. Everything in music, fashion, art, and even regular life is a trend here and there has to be something new right now every single day. For someone like me, it gets overwhelming. That's what "New Waves" is. I tried to make it upbeat and "trendy" while getting my over-thought point across. I guess my goal with the song would be to provoke people to appreciate things that they like because they like them, not because it's cool right now or because everyone else likes it. Eventually, everything will be trendy, even if people think it's stupid now.”

Marius began his musical journey at a young age, learning guitar and piano as a toddler and teaching himself drums during his teenage years. He played in local bands and wrote his first song, "Going Nowhere," in high school. With just a pair of headphones, a microphone, and a laptop, he recorded that song in his college dorm and released his debut album, “Room 135”, the same year.

While studying music in Boston, Marius wrote and recorded Montazona's second album, “Butterfly”, in his apartment. The album ranges from upbeat love songs like "Up at Night" to more introspective tracks like "Paranoid."

In a world that moves at lightning speed, “New Waves” is both a commentary and a call to action. It invites us to enjoy the ride, but also enjoy the breaks and the authenticity. As the waves of change roll in, Montazona challenges us to pause, question, and reclaim our authenticity amid the noise. It’s a timely message wrapped in a sound that’s as fresh as it is thought-provoking, cementing Montazona’s place in today’s ever-evolving music landscape.
