Island Wave isn't your average music platform. Founded in 2020, the platform is dedicated to amplifying Caribbean voices on the global stage. Inspired by a brush with mortality, Kalpee's passion ignited to celebrate the rich heritage of the Caribbean islands, not just through music, but through social impact initiatives that empower artists and address critical issues within the community. Miss Vivianna, of FVP Global, brought a strategic and collaborative force to the mission.

Island Wave's impact is multifaceted. A major achievement was their fourth successful year at the prestigious SXSW festival. This year, their presence was even stronger thanks to a successful collaboration with MusicTT, the Trinidad and Tobago Music Company Ltd. Tobagonian artist XAV performed a dynamic set with The Waivers (Island Wave House band) led by Joshua Salcedo, Kwami Morrison on lead guitar and Nick Thomas on drums. As well as Sevana, and Hector "Roots" Lewis both performers featured in Bob Marley's "One Love."

Continuing expanding the lineup from previous years, festival goers witnessed Prince Amine born in Antigua/Morocco, African heritage artist Mauvie from Ghana, and BBC Radio Wales presenter Aleighcia Scott from Jamaican-Welsh heritage.

Haitian artist J Perry headlined with explosive music and heartfelt lyrics. Sharing the stage with Haitian hip-hop queen Kanis, the dynamic duo performed their hit single "Ayyy" and delivered a powerful message of hope amidst Haiti's challenges.

In true Caribbean fashion, the Reggae Music Again Collective brought the event to a vibrant close. Founded by DJ Jah Flex (Jamaica), Ras Jamin (Jamaica), Mista B (Belize), DJ Shaggy Fowl (Jamaica), DJ Nappy (USA), and Mr Blackrock (Jamaica & Guyana), the collective delivered quintessential Island Wave vibes until the final note, showcasing the best of Caribbean music to Austin, Texas, and beyond. Reflecting on the experience, J Perry confided to us, "My first time at the Island Wave South by Southwest show was amazing. It's a true magical movement connecting Island talents. I was honoured to have been a part of it, especially representing Haiti which is going through its toughest times. Thank you, Island Wave for a memorable show and inspirational movement”

It’s also worth mentioning the energetic performances Island Wave delivered at Soho House Austin, highlighting Afro-Caribbean talent and introducing global audiences to contemporary Caribbean sounds. Miss V emphasizes the artists' ability to create commercially successful music that resonates internationally. Building on successes like the Official Caribbean Stage at SXSW and performances at the Singapore Grand Prix, Island Wave remains dedicated to promoting positive music and transforming stages into vibrant celebrations of culture, music, and joy.

June marked a significant moment as Caribbean Heritage Month and Men's Mental Health Month converged, coinciding with Windrush Day, providing a powerful backdrop for Island Wave's #RootsRhymesResilience campaign. This vibrant initiative celebrates the enduring spirit and traditions of the Caribbean islands. Artists serve as cultural ambassadors, sharing their stories and perspectives with the world through the #RootsRhymesResilience platform, fostering a deep sense of unity and cultural pride. Joining these campaigns are Grammy-nominated artist and Island Wave 2023 participant Blvk H3ro, Tobagonian artist XAV, Haitian musician Kanis alongside creative director Joshua Solas.

"This campaign is not just about celebrating our heritage, but also about sharing it with the world, inviting everyone to be a part of our vibrant culture,"

Island Wave's #RootsRhymesResilience campaign tackles the stigma surrounding men's mental health in the Caribbean. By promoting open dialogue, encouraging help-seeking, and advocating for tailored resources, Island Wave aims to improve mental well-being through music and support systems.

These initiatives operate alongside the #RootsRhymesResilience campaign, showcasing Island Wave's commitment to an adaptable approach. By celebrating Caribbean heritage while simultaneously addressing critical social issues, they are promoting a more holistic and empowered future for the Caribbean community.

Island Wave continues to look forward. Their unwavering dedication to showcasing Caribbean artistry is evident in their ongoing collaborations and event planning. They are a cultural force dedicated to amplify Caribbean voices, fostering unity, and tackling critical social issues. By creating a platform for artistic expression and addressing social challenges, Island Wave is leaving an undeniable mark on the global stage, one that will not soon be forgotten and will continue even stronger in years to come.
