“I woke up today laughing” is the new album of Elle PF

Ranelle Labiche is the creative brain behind Elle PF. She is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer from Minneapolis, who accompanied by Jenessa LaSota (bass/harmonies), John Acarregui (drums), and Doc (guitar), forms one of the most fiercely unique alternative rock projects you’ll ever come across.

They are now delivering a new album “I woke up today laughing”, which is a vanguardist production, full of experimental rock, punk, and electronic melodies.

The first song we heard from the album was the single "Ultimatum" released in October last year, a song that has rock, sensuality, electronic ambience, and a lot of personality. In it, Ranelle's ethereal-and-kickass voice takes an undisputed protagonism as it gracefully coasts just above the eclectic melody so deeply intertwined ith the vibes of the Californian scenery that the video also captures

Now, we finally have the rest of the songs that accompany “Ultimatum”. The album dives into emotional growth, self-knowledge, healing and even the lovelife of Ranelle Labiche.

In the words of the author, it is a “collection of intimate reflections on my personal relationships and touches on my experiences with power, control, regret, acceptance, mystery, addiction and eating disorders”.

Freak:

Is a song that reflects personal battles against power and control. A self-criticism and personal review that cries out for stability. In musical terms, it's a piano march with a touch of mystery that explodes into powerful drums.

Punk Song:

It is absolute punk! its sound is just as dynamic, raw, groovy and edgy as any self-respecting Punk song should be. Lyrically, it talks about the relationships that end before they even start, the vulnerabilities that are lived and the questions that remain open. So it is perhaps a bit more wise and vulnerable than what you would expect of many songs in the genre.

Ultimatum:

It is a slow rock near-ballad that talks about abusive and manipulative relationships and how -over time- these relationships leave permanent scars in those who suffer from them.

The song doesn't just dwell on that, however, it is ultimately about finding the power to set your foot down for your own good.

Same Mistakes:

Being emotionally guarded can sometimes be misunderstood and lead you to hold back feelings that need to come out and be expressed. The regret in these cases is frequent and it is what the band warns about with this song, do not make the same mistakes with new relationships.

Don’t think too much about:

Just that! Sometimes it's better if you don't think too hard when taking an emotional, romantic, or life risk. Sometimes it is better let things flow and not judge by previous experiences.

Just Leave:

A moving song about violent and abusive relationships. It's wonderful to see how the Ranelle and band managed to put an experience as terrifying as this in musical terms that end up being so endearing and light-hearted sound-wise.

Bad Habits:

Despite our human conscience, we feed bad habits. This ballad is written on the basis of one of many addictions that require all your will to stay in the past. A touching melody of reflection, inspiration and strength.

In this Song, Ranelle "grieves" bad habit's she's leaving behind after a stay in a treatment facility where she came face to face with her addictions, needless to say that this song is powerful and emotional, requiring some amazing honesty and strength on behalf of Ranelle to just come out and turn it into a song.

Filled with electro-pop infused alt-rock marches, and noticeably progressive sound, "I woke Up Today Laughing" further solidifies Elle PF as the highly confident vanguardists we always knew they were. Their signature eclectic sound is as refined as always, and the touching perspectives of ranelle's lyricism really make for some truly moving pieces with quite a lot of depth to them. I predict this album to be a huge success due to its musical quality and the honesty of the stories it has inside.
