Ericka Nicole Malone Releases Her New Single “I’m Climbin’”
Ericka Nicole Malone has just released her new single “I'm Climbin',” a powerful piece of music that will be the title track of the NAACP-winning artist's upcoming documentary, “The Bucketwish.”
The lyrics of “I'm Climbin'” come to remind us that we must take charge and work genuinely to achieve our dreams, no matter how crazy they may seem. And all this, under the umbrella created by Ericka Nicole Malone's soulful voice, which walks between earthly bass lines and daring piano waterfalls.
As for the melody, which from the first second manages to capture listeners' attention due to its relaxed and contagious rhythm, "I'm Climbin'" finds its roots in R&B and neo-soul worked by composer Ericka Nicole Malone and Grammy Award-winner producer Printz Board, who co-wrote the anthem "Where Is The Love?" by Black Eyed Peas.
Ericka shares, “I penned ‘I'm Climbin'’ as a lead song on the soundtrack to ‘The Bucketwish’ because I want people to remember who they are and to keep climbing up the stairs of life to different levels no matter how hard it gets.”
The search for unexplored passions is precisely what “The Bucketwish” is about and from there, it takes the momentum to make it clear that it is never too late to start a new journey.
Her work to elevate the voice of black women within the entertainment industry is also worthy of admiration. Noticing how few opportunities there were for many of them, she decided to create Ericka Nicole Malone Entertainment (ENME) with her business partner Phillip Robinson.
At ENME, workers are a diverse representation of qualified people of color, with more than 85% of below- and above-the-line jobs held by women of color.
There are several successes that she has achieved thanks to her efforts and work. “Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story,” for example, is a film she wrote and which she executive produced.
Led by Grammy winner Ledisi as the legendary Mahalia Jackson, the film boasts a star-studded cast that also includes Columbus Short, Janet Hubert, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Vanessa Williams, Keith David, and Corbin Bleu.
The film earned critical acclaim, scoring three nominations and winning Ericka an award for Outstanding Breakthrough Creative (Motion Picture) at the 54th NAACP Image Awards. It continued its success on the film festival circuit, amassing over 50 awards and nominations, including the prestigious African Movie Academy Award (AMMA) for "Best Diaspora Feature."
This woman -in music and films -continues to create opportunities for filmmakers through her Power EN-ME Grant, which provides funding, resources, and mentorship to women of color.
Ericka Nicole Malone's new single "I'm Climbin'" is a captivating track with a message of empowerment and perseverance. Through her work and the establishment of Ericka Nicole Malone Entertainment (ENME), this artist has become a beacon for elevating the voices of black women in the entertainment industry, providing opportunities for filmmakers of color, and championing diversity and inclusion.
