Dream Big, Work Hard: Michael Epps Talks to Rival about Career Moves in 2020
“Dream big, work hard and it will pay off someday” is Michael Epps’ message to the world - and what a fantastic message it is! The young, rising star has already made headway in the television and music industries and has every intention of continuing to dream big and work hard.
Born and raised in Chicago, Epps has already appeared on Fox’s Empire and NBC’s action-drama series, Chicago Fire. More recently, Epps stars as Jake in Showtime’s award-winning series, The Chi. The highly celebrated drama series captures everyday life in Chicago’s southside and Epps attests to its authenticity. “[The show creators] are doing more than an amazing job showing what Chicago is really like… they talk about both the negative and positive things [and] they also shine light on situations that don’t really get as much recognition in the world.”
Season 3 just premiered, and Epps is not only excited for everyone to see it, but he also confirms that “everyone has grown in a lot of ways” and fans will be meeting some new people on the show. In spilling more of the tea on season 3, Epps reviews his character Jake. “[Jake] was lost in season 1 and 2, [but] you see him growing into a young man and [he is] more aware of what is going on around him.” When asked about his favorite Jake moment, Epps most admires when Jake overcomes his fears and stands up to a bully. According to Epps, he relates most to Jake in terms of their shared love and loyalty of their siblings and friends.
In the pursuit of dreaming big and working hard, Epps declares that one of his dreams is to “book a role on the next Fast & Furious movie with Vin Diesel and the gang!” The actor is interested in starring in action movies and would love to collaborate on projects with Ice Cube and many other actors. Additionally, Epps shares his current binge-worthy shows include The Chi, All American, and Power. In fact, Epps tells Rival, “I would love to work on the Power spin off show that 50 cent produces.”
Like many teens, when he is not filming, Epps enjoys hanging out with his friends and family and also playing basketball and videogames. Outside of filming and his other pastimes, the multi-talented Epps has already entered the music scene via dropping his song “Drip” in 2019. “It was my first time in a studio making music, so I was just having fun with it,” Epps says. He created the song to give people “something to dance to” and he explains the is about his life and what he wants in his life. And there you have it, even his song symbolizes his message to the world about dreaming big and working hard.
So, what is next for Epps? “I am currently working on a clothing line with my mom and a few other things,” Epps tells Rival. “I plan to get back to the studio to make more music soon and I hope to book my first big movie role.” Stay tuned.
