Culture Wars Ignite a New Era with Blistering New Single "Typical Ways”

Culture Wars aren’t just turning up the volume—they’re turning heads around the world. The Austin-based band has dropped their newest single, “Typical Ways,” an explosive anthem packed with raw emotion and searing honesty. Available now on all streaming platforms, the track arrives on the heels of their high-profile tours with Keane, Maroon 5, LANY, and The Script, where it quickly became a fan favorite—drawing some of the loudest cheers of the night across packed stadiums and arenas.

More than just another single, “Typical Ways” marks a pivotal moment for Culture Wars: a bold declaration of artistic identity and emotional vulnerability. It’s the kind of song that reminds you rock music still has teeth—and something to say.

Vocalist Alex Dugan describes the track as a deeply personal reckoning. “I wrote ‘Typical Ways’ when I was not in a good mental state,” Dugan shares. “I consider it an angry letter to my former self.” That sense of inner conflict explodes through the track’s soaring, shout-from-the-rooftops chorus—an outpouring of angst and self-reflection that’s both cathartic and contagious.

In just a few years, Culture Wars have gone from indie buzz to international stages. Their blend of emotionally driven lyrics, dynamic live instrumentation, and genre-crossing appeal has made them a standout in a rock landscape that’s too often sanitized. As their name suggests, the band thrives on tension—between light and dark, past and future, intimacy and spectacle—and somehow turns it into something that feels unmistakably alive.

On June 1st, they’ll bring that energy to the Kaohsiung Music Center in Taiwan, supporting LANY for what’s expected to be another milestone performance in their increasingly global rise.

The new single sets the stage for the band’s forthcoming 2025 full-length album, which promises to be a rallying cry for a generation hungry for real emotion and sonic depth. If “Typical Ways” is the opening shot, this record is shaping up to be a full-scale revolution—ambitious, honest, and unapologetically loud.

Since the release of their 2021 debut EP teche—which clocked over 11 million independent streams and landed a track on the GRAMMY-nominated Bill & Ted Face the Music soundtrack—Culture Wars have been carving their own lane. With recent singles “Heaven” and “It Hurts” both climbing into the top 20 on U.S. alt radio and racking up millions of streams, the band is poised for a breakout year.

At a time when so much music feels disposable, Culture Wars are building something that lasts—songs that dig deep, hit hard, and stay with you.
