Growing up tough has molded me into a filmmaker with grit and an actor with depth - the kind you can't learn from textbooks alone. Additionally, working three years as an assistant to an executive producer was a crash course in the school of hard knocks that I wouldn't trade for the world. I firmly believe my challenging upbringing has fortified me as a filmmaker and enriched me as an actor.

Your award-winning short film "Black Chicks" received critical acclaim and earned you a Leo Award nomination for your performance. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the film and what it meant to you to be involved in such a project?

The film 'Black Chicks' was a project close to my heart that aimed to shed light on important issues. The inspiration behind the film stemmed from a desire to challenge stereotypes, celebrate the diversity and strength of Black women, and provoke meaningful conversations about identity and representation.

Being involved in 'Black Chicks' was a profound experience for me. It provided a platform to showcase the depth and complexity of Black female characters in a way that resonated with audiences and critics alike. The recognition through a Leo Award nomination was not only a validation of the hard work and dedication put into the project but also a testament to the importance of telling stories that reflect the richness of Black experiences.

“Henry’s Glasses,” a film you co-directed and produced, has won several awards, including Best Canadian Short Film from the NFB. What inspiration was behind telling this story, and what challenges did you face during production?

The creation of 'Henry's Glasses' was driven by a deep desire to explore themes of family bonds and the passage of time. Our inspiration stemmed from personal anecdotes, reflecting on how the mundane can hold profound meanings and connections.

During the production of 'Henry's Glasses,' we encountered challenges typical of independent filmmaking. Tight budgets, limited resources, and time constraints tested our creativity and problem-solving skills. Adapting to unexpected setbacks and ensuring the storytelling remained authentic posed significant hurdles. However, these obstacles fueled our determination to deliver a compelling narrative that resonated with audiences on an emotional level.
