Queer Punk Takes Center Stage with Klovis Gaynor’s Ferocious New Single “MYSOPHILIAC”

Klovis Gaynor & The Urinal Cakes is the latest project from queer musician Klovis Gaynor, joined by band members Brayden Baird, Dane Bundschuh, Josh Hausman, and Larah Helayne. They channel the rebellious spirit of punk and infuse it with their own queerness, resulting in music that is both unapologetically bold and deeply hopeful.

Their latest single, “MYSOPHILIAC,” is an in-your-face, unapologetic punk anthem. It opens with a chaotic clash of guitars and drums, reminiscent of classic punk icons like The Sex Pistols and The Ramones, before diving into raw, raspy vocals. The song quickly crescendos into pure, electrified chaos—each instrument adding to a whirlwind of sound that feels both frenzied and meticulously controlled. The guitars wail with relentless intensity, the drums pound with almost unrestrained ferocity, and through it all, the raw vocals cut through, binding the elements into a singular, unrelenting force.

Lyrically, the song draws heavy inspiration from the Marquis de Sade’s 120 Days of Sodom. In this text, Klovis found ideas that deeply resonated with him, challenging his beliefs and pushing him beyond society’s narrow moral compass. “MYSOPHILIAC” demands that we liberate ourselves—urging us to be courageous enough to confront our desires. Shame, the song suggests, is a weight society would be better off without.

“It is my hope that this song acts as a vaccine for our very sick world. I hope you listen, and when the song concludes, you feel wiser and more human. There is so much power in not only being yourself but knowing yourself. Actively seek out confusion, discomfort, and darkness so that you can find your own way. We will not find a cure to an ill and burning world through the systems of knowledge within that world. We must find solutions in the abstraction, in the darkness, in the chaos, in the queer, in the filth.” — Klovis Gaynor

“MYSOPHILIAC” serves as the final single from Klovis Gaynor & The Urinal Cakes’ upcoming debut album, “SAVE ME 4 THE SPANK BANK,” set for release on March 14, 2025.
