Max Green releases "LYUTD"
Calling it “an unexpected gem” Max Green is Distilling some of the most emotionally-intelligent Indie-pop sounds you'll hear right now. From his Echo Park stomping grounds ,Max presents “LYUTD”, a fresh new track that is kicking into gear his upcoming debut EP.
"LYUTD" ('Like You Used To Do') is a fairly sentimental song where Max meditates on the impact of his relationship with a loved one, and how evolved even out of their former selves. "It touches on dependencies within relationships, substance abuse, and breaking old habits." he reveals, "My favorite line is in the pre-chorus: 'but do you need somebody else now to be the best version of yourself?' he adds.
The single jumps out at you immediately, wasting no time in easing you into its peculiar hybrid aesthetic. This might come off as jarring at first, but the way all of these electronic sounds come together with Max's highly emotive vocals can make it so he easily gets away with triggering a musical explosion in your ears without a warning.
With its chord progression being originally birthed through a bonafide Wurlitzer keyboard I think it would be fair to say that Max Green is -either consciously or unconsciously- very much influenced by the soundscapes and stylings of male EDM vocalists like John Martin, NERVO, and Richard Bedford. To my ears, he's not too far removed from that world, and I think that he could easily transition into collaborating with some great Producers who need only hear him. This is not to say that he even needs to do that, his own ability to construct rhythms and harmonies results in something that is familiar, yes, but by no means derivative nor overplayed, and if there's anyone who knows how Max is "supposed" to sound, then that would be Max himself.
Again, "LYUTD" comes announcing his forthcoming debut EP. The four-song compilation was assembled with the contribution of Australian producer Jim Alxndr and LA-based mix engineers Nathan Phillips, & Eric Bard. the EP will be arriving this December 10th to streaming, and I, for one, cannot wait to put it on rotation.
