New York audiences are in for a rare treat as Martina Fišerová, the Czech-born singer-songwriter and guitarist, brings her heartfelt jazz-pop fusion and European storytelling to the iconic Bitter End on May 4. The concert, set to begin at 6:30 PM, promises an intimate evening of original music and personal narratives spanning her dynamic career.
Though she's just beginning to make waves in the U.S., Fišerová is far from a newcomer. Back in her native Czech Republic and across Europe, she gained recognition performing with acclaimed jazz and fusion acts such as the legendary band Impuls, trumpeter Laco Deczi and his Celula New York, the Phishbacher Trio, Jan Kořínek and Groove, and the Rajnošek Band. She also spent several years as a backing vocalist for the iconic Czech rock star Kamil Střihavka while leading her own acoustic project, Seven Days.
Educated at the esteemed Jaroslav Ježek Jazz College, Martina quickly became known for her multilingual songwriting talents. She contributed both lyrics and vocals to renowned bassist Jaryn Janek’s debut album, Ty Lidi. By 2012, she released her first record, Clearing Fields, a spontaneous collaboration with Grammy-nominated organist Brian Charette. A year later, she added a poetry collection, Martezie, to her growing body of work.
Determined to expand her artistic reach, Fišerová moved to New York City in 2013. Since then, she has been captivating listeners with her unique blend of harmonic sophistication and deeply personal expression. In 2015, she released her first fully self-written album, SHIFT.
Her journey has led her to prestigious stages and international festivals across Europe, including the Garana Jazz Festival in Romania, the Afyon Jazz Festival in Turkey, and the Rueil Malmaison Jazz Festival in France, among others.
As New York Music Daily perfectly put it: “Her tunesmithing is sophisticated, purposeful and defies categorization.” Martina Fišerová’s voice carries a rare combination of strength and vulnerability, her sound both elegant and raw.
