Love the Way We Love Abi Ocia

Hailing from West London, Abi Ocia Had one of the most successful debut stories I think I've ever seen. Released in 2016 her single "Running" stands today at over 6 million views on Youtube and over 7 million streams on Spotify. With spaced-out releases since her debut, Abi is ponderous and deliberate to produce, but quick and graceful to hit, and with each and every new song, she cements herself further into the minds of audiences as a rising force in the world of music.

Abi's unique Indie pop sound is not so easy to label, her diverse musical upbringing contains equal parts of reggae, prog-rock, soul, and many more genres that both of her parents nourished her in her youth. But what does that mean today for Abi? Well, first, her sound is sophisticated and progressive, and while it is difficult to catalog, it is also very coherent with itself. There are no rough edges or influences fighting for domination in her songs, and her quality-over-quantity approach results in a finely polished gem that is uniquely itself. Her sound is Abi Ocia, and her genre is Abi Ocia.

With "LTWYLM" (Love The Way You Love Me), The aesthetic mood is immediately clear. The hopelessly romantic neo-noir ballad plays on nostalgic and melancholic notes, but the whole of the track is nothing if not uplifting and motivating instead. The smokey and amber-colored song becomes real around you as its very slow crescendo brings it all to a state of euphoria around the 2:40 mark, it continues all the way to the end.

I joined Rival Magazine after a few years of doing PR work for independent musicians of all stripes; understanding their struggles to be heard in a sea of constant  ADHD noise and paywalled access to platforms, I now bring a willingness to always appreciate and encourage the effort and creativity that artists put into their work .
