"Little Idiot" is Elohim's new cathartic release

I demonize you cause the demons in me / Start corrupting my thoughts and destroying my dreams

All of us who have tried to take care of our spiritual growth know that the real journey is inwards and if there is an artist who defines this with all of its letters, that is Elohim, who with “Journey to the center of myself” tells a lot about her own process of overcoming the severe anxiety disorder, panic and dissociation that she's suffered for a long time.

For this L.A singer, songwriter, and producer things haven’t been easy at all. She has had struggles with her mental health that have brought her almost to the point of giving up on music, especially when at the beginning of the lockdown when she started to experience depression because of the cancellation of her tour.

"Little Idiot" is a song that can be related to different situations in life. It Talks about the way we usually feel when we feel we have spoiled something, when we regret what we said or did. It is an open letter that calls for reflection on how we act when we do it from the wounds that we may have inside. "I talk shit / I got a fucked up past / Fill holes with whatever I can / Must be overcompensating / For something I'm repressing."

Elohim grew up in a household surrounded by classic blues and jazz music, as well as rock legends like Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, and Jimi Hendrix. She began taking piano lessons at just 5-years-old with Debussy, Chopin, and Bach as a leading artist. Soon after, a family friend introduced her to more electronic sounds like Animal Collective and Radiohead, until she procured herself a laptop and began sampling her own music on Garageband.

The story behind her debut is about taking risks. Either her anxiety would get the better of her, or she would use writing as therapy for overcoming her mental fights. Fortunately for us in 2015, after an entire year experimenting with sounds and trying to find her own identity “She talks too much” was born.

One she started, she never stopped. Since 2018 she’s played shows at Coachella and Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, HARD Summer and EDC Mexico. In early 2019, she featured in a GoDaddy mini-doc and national commercial, showing her face and speaking with her voice in a huge, brave step forward.

‘Journey to the Center of Myself’ is kind of a reflection of Elohim’s journey over the last 18 months. It began as a single LP pre-pandemic but now has changed into a four-part project that documents her understanding of herself. The artwork for part one of ‘Journey to the Center of Myself’ comes bordered by butterflies, a mark of Elohim blossoming up and out of her cocoon, face-on to the world.

This girl has turned her vulnerability into a force that brings people together through music at the time it prompted her to overcome the struggles and push forwards.
