JD Hinton Triumphs with “Five Smooth Stones” for the Soul

JD Hinton is back! The acclaimed singer-songwriter has released his latest EP, “Five Smooth Stones.” His deep and seductive voice along with his meticulously crafted melodies, and smart lyrics blend to offer five new songs that will surely mesmerize his fan base and also captivate new audiences.

JD Hinton has a surprising artistic journey that goes from bringing parties to life as a DJ to acting in popular TV shows like “The Morning Show” and “Jane the Virgin.” His creativity, adaptability, and hard work are also present in his music, where he has accomplished multiple milestones. His achievements include several sold-out performances in cities like Los Angeles and New York and the special opportunity of performing for the Pope in the hallowed halls of the Vatican. Now, with the recent release of his fifth EP, Hinton is ready to attain new objectives.

Five Smooth Stones” is an album that highlights for its heartfelt melodies, sometimes slow and meditative, sometimes flirtatious and energetic; and the capacity Hinton has to narrate timeless stories.

The name of the album is inspired by the biblical story of David and Goliath, where an apparently defenseless man defeated an intimidating giant with just five stones. Each of the five songs included in the album represents the “Five Smooth Stones” used to bring down the giants of life’s adversities. Produced along with renowned Justin Glasco, each one of the songs in the EP encapsulates a side of Hinton. “My first job is to write what I hear in my head,” he mentions about his creative process, "my second job is to get it out of my living room."

The album opens with the sublime sound of “Ready to Begin.” The nudity of Hinton’s voice only adorned with dynamic piano melodies works perfectly to transmit the honesty of readiness before a new romance. Immediately we find “Beautiful Woman.” In this track, the environment gets smoky as you enter a bluesy vintage nightclub. The inspiration for this track was the unforgettable blonde actress in Mulholland Drive, a “Beautiful Woman” driven by desire and ambition. A woman that won’t be satisfied with playing a supporting role, but will get what she needs to have the spotlight just for herself.

When You Dance” has a special place in this collection. It portrays the complexity and mental turmoil that follows some ephemeral connections. This Americana-infused ballad merges somberness of introspection with uplifting optimism in deeply emotional lyrics and a melody meant to be danced alone. “Too Damn Good” impresses high-voltage energy to the EP. Written in a Starbucks in Texas, the song presents a narcissistic character unafraid of consequences, living just for today. The sound of this track blends grooves with chaotic production to capture the reckless abandon of the character. Finally, the album closes with “Fall in My Arms.” The ballad was written during Hinton’s reflexive drives to Texas. JD Hinton uses this last song to focus on the urgency and passion of love.

With “Five Smooth Stones” JD Hinton reaffirms the capacities of his artistry. The tracks, which he describes as “4-minute movies,” create unique soundscapes where his voice takes the front stage and immerses listeners into narratives that dive deep into love, longing, and self-discovery.
