From Supernatural Encounters to Cosmic Sounds: Here Is What You Need to Know about Midnight Daughter

In the realm where mysticism meets music, Midnight Daughter emerges in celestial style with their appropriately self-titled debut album, "Midnight Daughter." Born from a fateful vision on a mountaintop, this band transcends conventional boundaries to deliver an ethereal journey through sound and emotion.

Conducted by the enigmatic composer Aurora Smedley accompanied by violinist Bryan Djunaedi and bassist Jack Wilson Kelley, the genesis of Midnight Daughter was marked by a supernatural encounter that propelled them on a cosmic odyssey. From the lush landscapes of Seattle to the spiritual haven of Sedona and finally, to the vibrant music hub of Austin, their journey reflects the ethereal themes that permeate their music.

The album includes songs like 'Sunsets of Red', which has deep and serene lyrics related to transcendence to other planes of life. Paragraphs like this,  reveal the emotional charge that was put into the composition.

Deadness feels like
Insurrection
Pacing at the borders of imagination
Melting down my face
In the hurricane
Seeping into
Desolation

The band has assured that “the album happened by accident. After playing a house show, we learned that one of our fans had downloaded all of our (what I thought were) shitty demos and was listening to them as mp3s on his phone. This made me realize that perhaps I should take these recordings seriously. After mastering the tracks, I was so impressed that I decided to release the work as a self-titled debut”.

The album's tracks range from heartbreaking ballads to electrifying rock anthems, showcasing Midnight Daughter's dynamic prowess and genre-defying versatility. Each composition unfolds as a chapter in a narrative that shifts seamlessly in time, tempo, and key signature, but is always guided by Aurora's evocative narration.

'Kali Ma', on the other hand, is a statement of protest against the numbness that an important part of society seems to experience, which cancels out important issues and abstracts itself into imaginary realities, summarized in lines like this:

Fuck you and your way of thinking
You still play a video game
Living under false pretenses
Comfort always makes the slave.

Outside there are people dying
As you strive to be entertained
But drink amnesia, it will please ya
One glass to swallow the shame.

One of the album's most notable qualities is its orchestral depth, which evokes the grandeur of classical composition while maintaining a contemporary touch. Bryan Djunaedi's violin intertwines with Aurora's voice to create an immersive sound that captivates the listener from start to finish.

Midnight Daughter's self-titled debut album is a bold statement of artistic vision and sonic exploration. It transcends the boundaries of the genre and invites listeners on a cosmic journey.
