Brye indicts "Diet Culture" in new single.
Brye is one of those artists that just grab a hold of your entire attention immediately and with seemingly little effort too. The Young singer-songwriter and producer has a carefully crafted sound that makes 'fascinating' and 'unique' sound like cliché understatements. Her music is tidy, elegant, and very astute; meanwhile her mellow-yet-energetic vocals border on an experimental crossover between dream pop and folk with a rap-like dexterity and dynamism impressed behind them.
Originally from Chicago, Brye describes herself as a "professional Crybaby" (meaning she fuels her musical pursuits mainly out of intense, dramatic feelings). She started her musical endeavors at the young age of twelve by pouring her thoughts and feelings into songwriting. Later, at the age of fourteen, she immersed herself deeply into music production all through her high school years, profiling her developing talents after artists like DODIE, Tessa Violet, and Oh Wonder.
Since her 2019 debut with "Million Songs", Brye has amassed over seventy million streams on Spotify alone and gained 300,000 social media followers combined. Collaborating with the likes of Cavetown and Addison Grace.
Her latest release, titled "Diet Culture" is already making a big splash on the scene as well, sparking a huge social media movement as an anthem and vehicle to facilitate an open dialog on eating disorders, body positivity, self-esteem, beauty standards, and more.
And I know their worst fear is to look like me
And that fact makes me want to kill somebody
I'm eating at the counter and you're talking about your weight
I usually don't hate you but today I'm enraged
Though it's a deeply personal song, it ultimately talks about a fairly universal issue that many people will relate to, and even if one can't, the mix between raw emotion and catchy hooks will nonetheless carry the message far and wide, especially when it's all laid out so elegantly in the rich, cinematic, percussion-oriented tapestry weaved by Brye.
